ILLUSTRATION

I attended the Philadelphia College of Art (now known as the University of the Arts) from Fall 1977 through Spring 1981. I majored in Illustration with strong training in painting. Almost all of my illustrations are done in acrylics and and Prismacolor pencils on Arches hot press watercolor paper. While at PCA, I figured out a method that I still use now. Acrylics can have a very shiny surface, that will not enable you to draw on it. After I finish painting a section with acrylics, I paint a layer of Liquitex matte medium over that section, hit it with my hairdryer, and then I can draw with the color pencils. I go back and forth between the acrylics and color pencils, till I get the result I like.
